Job Description

High Oaks is a small, independent care home for adults located in Gissing near Diss, south Norfolk. We specialise in mental health needs and learning disabilities.

We’re looking for a bank cook / support worker on an ‘as and when needed’ basis. There may also be some support work in people’s homes within the community.

A plentiful variety of regular shifts are available and bank positions often lead to contracted hours if that is the person’s preference.

You’ll need to be flexible, sometimes doing cook shifts when the chef is on leave and sometimes support worker shifts.

Own transport essential due to rural location in Gissing near Diss, south Norfolk and for community home care work.

The care home support worker shifts cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are long daytime (12.25 hours), short daytime (8 hours), waking nights (12.25 hours), sleeping nights (12.25 hours including 7.5 hours dedicated sleeping time). Community home care is generally during the day as needed.

You may not be needed for home care work until some time after you employment starts.

Cook shifts are during the day and around 5.5 hours. You’ll be cooking meals (usually at lunchtime) for about 20 people.

Experience of cooking for larger numbers of people essential.

Experience is not required for the support worker role and there is the possibility to be employed as a bank cleaner/support worker if you don’t have experience.

Hourly rate for waking hours is £9 per hour and waking nights (support work) attract a further enhancement of £10 per shift.

Duties include (and not limited to)

Support Work in Care home:

• Helping to compile residents’ support plans and risk assessments
• Delivering care and support in accordance with the individual support plans
• Administering, storing, auditing and ordering medication
• Assisting residents with practical development such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, housework, laundry, personal hygiene
• Record keeping in residents’ daily notes
• Cleaning in communal areas and residents’ rooms
• Driving residents to appointments and activities using High Oaks vehicles
