Job description
Listed below are details of the purpose and general tasks of the job to provide some insight of what is involved. It is advisable to refer to this when submitting your application for the post.
Job Purpose
To assist a woman with physical support needs with domestic tasks, personal care, and accessing the local community.
Location: Norwich, NR4
Details
I am a young woman with various conditions which affect my mobility, energy, and neurological function. I am a Christian and am quite involved in my church. While I do not expect my PAs to share my beliefs, it is important that they are respectful of them. My interests are TV (including documentaries, medical dramas, and crime dramas), current affairs, reading, finding ways to exercise with my limitations and dog training. I also love being out in nature whenever possible and growing fruit and vegetables.
My care needs cover a wide range of things, and different duties will need to be carried out on different days. My conditions vary from day to day and even hour to hour, and the level of care I need will therefore vary accordingly. Although I need support with some mental tasks, and at times when my ME is flared up I struggle with communication, the majority of the time I am very ‘with it’ and can give direction and make my support needs known.
Duties to include:
  • Cooking healthy, homemade meals from scratch both with and without guidance.
  • Support with personal care routines, such as hair washing, trimming nails, shaving and occasional help with showering. No support for managing toileting needs needed.
  • General domestic tasks to keep my home clean and tidy. This will include doing a deep clean of hard to reach places, hoovering, cleaning the fridge, doing laundry and changing bed linen.
  • Providing medication reminders, occasional prescription collection and helping to organise medication.
  • Personal administration including responding to phone calls and e-mails, reading letters, form filling, paying bills, making medical appointments and filing paperwork.
  • Support with accessing the local community and facilities, including grocery shopping, attending support groups and going to social events.
  • Support with attending medical appointments. This may include taking notes, helping to explain, or support with dressing/undressing.
  • Dog walking when needed.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested.
Person specification
Listed below are the skills, competencies and qualities that are essential and desirable for the post. My assessment of these, both on application and at interview, will be the main factor in determining if you are successful. Please refer to these when submitting your application.
Essential
  • Female due to personal care element of role.
  • Must have Maths and English GCSE or equivalent as you will be helping with admin and bills.
  • Must be willing to take direction and do things how I would like them done.
  • Must be comfortable working in a home environment with a dog and enjoy being around dogs.
  • Must have your own vehicle with appropriate business cover insurance or live within walking distance. Being punctual is very important to me so I do not want my Personal Assistants to be dependant on public transport as this can be unreliable.
  • Must be flexible and reliable, with the willingness to provide occasional holiday and sickness cover.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and evenings on occasion.
Desirable
  • A competent cook. I need to eat homecooked meals cooked from scratch due to various food intolerances, and I am not always well enough to give guidance, so it is important that you are comfortable in the kitchen.
