There are lots of different job roles available in adult social care, depending on your interests and skills. Take a look to see what suits you best.

Care Workers

Care Workers are the frontline staff in all care settings, working with a range of people who need care and support. Duties vary depending on the needs of the individual’s they are responsible for. They support overall comfort and well-being and help people who need care and support to live as independently as possible.

Care Workers work in residential settings, people’s own homes or out in the community.

Experience

There are no specific minimum qualifications, although you will require a DBS check and undertake a 12 week induction programme –  Care Certificate.

Senior Care Workers

Senior Care Workers do the same job as Care Workers, but with additional front line supervision and monitoring of care workers and care assistants. They also have additional responsibility such as infection lead or end of life services.

Senior Care Workers work in residential settings, people’s own homes or out in the community.

Experience:

A background in social care, and may have achieved their level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

  • Digital skills to upload photos to care plans online

Personal Assistant

Personal Assistants work directly with one or more individuals to support them in every aspect of their daily lives, enabling them to live as independently as possible. They are usually employed by the person who needs care and support, or individual budgets from local authorities.

Management

Within social care there’s opportunities to progress into management roles, from supervisors, team leaders, managers, senior managers to registered managers.

Experience/qualifications:

Supervisory role – Level 3 qualification.

Team Leader – Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care.

Manager – Knowledge of service requirements with a mix of professional social work qualification, nursing, medical and management qualifications.

Senior Manager – Significant knowledge of service requirements with a mix of professional social work qualification, nursing, medical and management qualifications.

Registered Manager – Significant knowledge of service requirements with a mix of professional social work qualification, nursing, medical, management qualifications and Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care.
